ABOUT the AAHGS  JDW DC CHAPTER

The Afro-American Historical and Genealogical Society, Inc. – James Dent Walker District of Columbia Chapter is a non-profit organization dedicated to the study and research of history and genealogy. We strive to make outstanding contributions to the AAHGS mission that preserves African American history and genealogy through the sponsorship of quality chapter programs, activities, and services.

Although the JDW Chapter is based in Washington, DC, many of our members are not native to the DC area and our research undertakings are not restricted to local genealogy/history. Our interests are regional, national and international. Our activities range from scheduled to special and our projects are ongoing or sometimes one of kind. One of our primary goals is to assist members in discovering and documenting their histories.
